Yes, it was over on lap 155 for Kyle Busch at the Pepsi Max 400 in Fontana, California this past weekend. Though he had battled a penalty and an ill-handling race car for much of the day. He had managed to drive thru the field to fifth place with the help of adjustments from his pit crew. Then; "POP", was the sound Kyle described hearing and then he said; "It's Over". The engine had let go on Kyle's #18 Toyota and later the cause was found to be a broken valve.

With Kyle now sitting 187 points back from leader Jimmy Johnson in the  NASCAR CUP points standings, "It's Over" just might be the case for Kyles' Championship hopes. Though some might say Kyle has made his own bed. Referring to an incident in last weeks race in which Kyle had ran into the back of another driver,David Reutiman. David's car spun out and hit the wall and then went several laps down to repair the damage. After repairs were finished, David returned to the track and exacted revenge on Kyle by running into the rear side of his car. Damage was not as bad for Kyle as David's was and so Kyle managed to finish on the lead lap but lost valuable points none the less.

Is this the end of the title chase for Kyle this season? Only time will tell but at a minimum it will be a much steeper hill for the #18 team to try and climb now. I wouldn't bet any money on it but things are looking pretty darn good for Jimmy Johnson #48 getting another record-breaking 5th Championship in a row this year!
